Contrast between light and dark imagery: God is honored through life and death.
1) Exodus 10:23 God puts complete darkness over Egypt for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings.
2) 11 (firstborn will die), 12:24-27 Observe this even in the promised land and pass it on to children, ‘It is a Passover sacrifice to the LORD who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but spared our homes.’” And the people bowed low and worshiped.
3) God leads with a pillar of cloud and fire.
4) 14:20 the angel of God comes between Egypt and Israel’s camps, “and there was the cloud along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Thus the one did not come near the other all night.”
Man nearly always perceives death as tragic, but it and anything can be used for the glory of God. God reveals Himself as light shining through darkness (and Christians are called to be light of the world), so even though there was darkness in the land of Egypt, there was light where the Israelites lived. Light, which is connected to Truth, guides God’s people.
